Week5 Term 3

Posted in reflections on September 5, 2011 by teuruwhakarewa :)

General comment: On Tuesday I along with five others presented our speeches. We all did very well and they were quite succesful. We also had the college visit for those students attending Te Awamutu college next year. We had our orientation and saw most of the school. I also found out that I made the Inter-Intermedaite basketball team so I am excited for that.

This week I have learnt:

In Maths: I have been learning how to find the circumference of circles. I know that the rule for that is the diameter multiplied by 3.14 or Pi. I have been doing some practice work and have become quite familiar with finding the circumference of circles Rule= (pi d) I have also learnt how to find the area of circles by dividing the diameter by two for example if the diameter was 24 it would become 12 squared. Multyplied by Pi.

Writing:  We have started a new piece of writing that needs to be completed by next sunday. This is focused on the structure, language features e.g rhetorical questions and audience. I have been learning to include these in my own piece and have learnt how to do it quite confidently.

Goal:
In maths my goal is to remember how to convert kl to L. I will do this by completing all of the practice work I have been given.

In writing it is to have my writing edited properly and to meet the criteria for it. I will do this by proof reading my work and having more than one of my peers read it.

Term 3 Week 4

Posted in reflections on August 26, 2011 by teuruwhakarewa :)

General comment:  This week has been so busy. We have drawn all the names out of a container to find out when we are saying our speeches. I have been pick for Monday of week 5 so I am nervous. I have also found out that I will be traveling to Belmont and am also looking forward to that.

This week I have learned:

In Maths: We have been learning about area and perimeter. Here is my learning reflection that I wrote for how to find perimeter “I have learned how to find the perimeter of a variety of polygons by finding what the width or length or both equal on a shape and adding them. For my example if I had a simple square and one of the edges equaled 6cm and all of the sides were even I would have to find the number of sides =4 so if you add 6+6+6+6 which equals 24 that is the perimeter of a square”

In Writing: We have been given a sheet of paper with a number of topics to pick from for our new argument writing.

Goal:  My goal is to be able to calculate the area of an object off by heart. I will do this by completing all of the practice work I have been given and trying to listen so I can gain a better understanding.

week 3 Term 3

Posted in reflections on August 19, 2011 by teuruwhakarewa :)

Term 3 has begun and we have had a busy start to the term. Filled with tests sports and probably the most important cross country. For the first time in 9 years I believe we lost the shield by six points. It was tough but to be expected due to the effort we put in except for my friend mia milne who came first as usual. We also have speeches coming up which I think everyone is both excited and nervous about.

Maths: We have been learning about scale factor and how it works here is a learning intention from my maths book that fully explains not only what I have learnt but how I learnt it. “I have learnt how to use scale(ratio) to find a given size, by measuring distances, lengths, widths anything and multiplying it by the scale. For example if the scale was 1cm :5cm meaning every one centermetre equalled five centremetres. So I wanted to find out what the scale would be if the scale ratio was changed to 6 cm all I would have to do is multiply five by six giving me 30 so the scale would then change to 1:30″

Tech Arts: We have now moved on to science which I have found to be really interesting. We have been learning about atoms and how they change state and also how they change from a solid liquid or gas and back again. I have learnt that to change a solid into a liquid or gas you need to add heat and if you wanted to turn a gas into a liquid or solid you would take away the heat.

Writing:  Each person in the class had to write a persuasive arguement based on the criteria sheet. We were focusing on structure and audience. We had to include our audience right through our writing and make sure we had the correct structure.

Week 1 Term 2

Posted in reflections on May 9, 2011 by teuruwhakarewa :)

In maths: I have been learning how to find equivalent fractions. To fin equivalent fractions is like simplifying but instead of dividing it you multiply it for example 1/4 is also equal to 2/8 because I multiplied both the numerator and the denominator by two making it equal to 1/4

In Writing: We have been writing character descriptions learning how to use metaphors to describe someone or something.  we have also been doing figurative language as well

Term 2 Goals

Posted in Term 2 goals on May 5, 2011 by teuruwhakarewa :)

My p.e goal is: To take out the inter -intermediate girls rugby competition. I will do this by practicing hard and learning how to play with the girls as a team. To trial for as many inter- intermediate sports as possible I will do this by just trying my best.

My maths goal: To improve on my fractions and decimals. I will do this by listening and taking as many notes possible and also using mathletics.

My writing goal: To improve on my sentences and sentence types. I will do this by practicing the different types of sentences there are. I also need to work on identifying different types of sentences.

My inquiry goal: To try and learn as much as possible about the holocaust so I can do a good presentation for the class. I will do this by thinking of creative ways to present my inquiry.

Term 3 week 4

Posted in reflections on August 12, 2010 by teuruwhakarewa :)

This week I learnt…

In Maths: I learnt how to find the area of parallelograms and triangles. This is the learning statement from my own maths book.

I am able to say that I understand how to find the area of triangles and parallelograms. To find the area of a triangle you times the base and the height together and then divide it by two. For a parallelogram it is just base times height.

In English: I have learnt how to write a double-sided arguement. The layout for a double-sided arguement is A factual introduction and then 2-3 reasons of the side you support the most and then 2-3 reasons of the side you do not support the most. When you have done all of that you then have to write a conclusion bout what you think is best.

P.E For p.e  we had cross-country. I was actually quite surprised on how much I really enjoyed cross-country. I was happy to have come 29th which was above what I was expecting to get. At the end I felt like I had tried my hardest and ran the best that I could have.

Science Fair

The photo above is a picture of my science fair board.

For science fair I did my experiment on water evaporation and my question was, does adding colour to water effect it’s evaporation time? After I had worked out what I was going to do I wrote a hypothesis saying that the water was going to evaporate the fastest and that adding food colouring would just way the water down taking it longer to evaporate. My results show that my hypothesis was correct and that water did evaporate the fastest.
